City begins ash tree removal

When Jan and Rich Shequen built their house on Apple Lane in Lake City 44 years ago, there were no other houses around; there wasn’t even a street, Jan said.

Soon after, Dave Moses of the Lake City Jaycees stopped by with trees for sale for $5 each. The Shequens bought two ash trees and, with the help of their children, planted them in the front yard.

Over the next 43 years those branches held the Shequens’ grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a lot of memories.

“That’s been four generations that have enjoyed those trees,” Jan said.
