Cub Scouts work in Community Garden learning to grow food
Lake City’s Cub Scout Pack 94 worked together this growing season to plant, tend, and harvest vegetables in the local Community Garden. The boys practiced earth-friendly measures such as using straw as mulch to conserve water. Participants earned the World Conservation Award patch for their attention to the environment and natural resources. The scouts’ effort yielded over 18 pounds of produce, which was then donated to the food shelf. Caleb Lichtblau watered the garden; Frankie Kania tended to a fence constructed to deter rabbits and other garden invaders; Izeley Kania planted seeds.
