Encampment, live music announced at former National Guard base here

A free event on Saturday, July 23, will celebrate the nearly 50-year history of the former National Guard training area in Lake City.

From the late 19th century into the early 20th century, the Minnesota Army National Guard had a training area called Camp Lakeview on the southern end of Lake City. The site was later used as a Civilian Conservation Corps camp.

The 2nd Minnesota Battery will set up a Civil War encampment near the Lake City Sportsman’s Club on land that was once part of the training area.
