Postcards, valentines and more at next historical society Open Hours on Feb. 11

There once was a time where texting did not exist. Nor did email, smart phones or social media.

The most common form for “dropping a line” was the penny postcard and they were ubiquitous. People sent postcards for holidays and birthdays.

Travel postcards were sent from just about every city, even towns far less scenic than Lake City. They were used to promote tourism, advertise products and make people laugh. It was how you kept connected to friends and family—even ones living nearby.
