Council approves full-time officer position with code enforcement duties

After a search for a part-time police officer who would handle code enforcement for the city yielded no applicants, the Lake City City Council on July 10 approved a full-time officer position in an effort to fill the role on a 5-2 vote.

The council approved the part time position on June 12. It blended the roles of police officer, police administrative assistance, and—from the city’s planning department—code enforcement for things like junk vehicles and property nuisances.
