Council OKs source to fill gap created by high Highway 61 bid

The Lake City City Council Monday approved a plan to pay its share of the increased costs for the Highway 61 reconstruction project that resulted from a higher-than-expected bid for the project last year.

The city is splitting the cost of the project with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Engineering estimates last year put the city’s share at $3.449 million.

But the project only had one bidder, Rochester Sand and Gravel. The bid came in higher than expected, and the city’s share increased to $4.126 million.
