Goodhue County Commissioner 'disappointed' with jail food contract decision

County Commissioner Barney Neseth questioned a decision made by Sheriff Scott McNurlin not to rebid the food contract for the Red Wing jail.

He stated, at the Nov. 7 meeting, “I guess, according to the documents here, we are not required by law to rebid the contracts for jail services.”

County Administrator Scott Arneson replied, “That is correct. By statute the sheriff runs the jail.”

Nesseth asked McNurlin if he could give some insight into his thoughts on why he didn’t want to bid out the food contract.
