It’s no surprise that agricultural counties in Minnesota have a nitrogen water pollution problem. Nitrogen is one of only two common river pollutants that are actually increasing in Minnesota rivers. In addition each year we hear of more and more private and small-town drinking water wells that are now undrinkable due to this common agricultural fertilizer. We also know where nitrogen pollution is coming from in southeast Minnesota.
