Local tax increases below statewide trends

It’s December, the time of the year when most local governments in Minnesota hold their Truth in Taxation meetings and approve their final property tax levies for 2025.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue has released preliminary levy data from around the state, and Lake City, Lake City Public Schools, and Goodhue and Wabasha Counties all had increases that were less than the state as a whole for cities, schools, and counties.

Based on approved preliminary levies, the amount of property taxes in the state could increase by around 6 percent.
