New center in Lake City aims to strengthen Minnesota's mussels

One of the upper Midwest’s only freshwater mussel propagation facilities operates unassumingly in a building at the end of a dead-end road on Lake City’s north side.

The Center for Aquatic Mollusks Program is home base for malacologist Mike Davis and a handful of other Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) employees working to restore the diversity and population of mussels in Minnesota waterways.
