New road, new detour, new traffic concerns on city streets

The northern section of the Highway 61 reconstruction project has reopened to traffic, significantly shortening the posted detour for motorists travelling between Red Wing and Lake City.
Prior to the reopening late last week, northbound Highway 61 traffic took Lakewood Avenue to 10th Street and on to Red Wing via Goodhue County Road 5. Now traffic can take 10th Street to Grant Street and rejoin Highway 61 in Lake City.
