Proposed historic district aims to protect historic homes along South Oak Street
From the 1860s until the early 1900s, many entrepreneurs, doctors, politicians and other leading citizens of Lake City built homes on or near a section of South Oak street between Center Street and Lakewood Avenue.
Some of the names, like Patton, are familiar through their philanthropic legacies. Others, like Kemp and Dwelle, through descendants who remain in Lake City. For many others, their names are familiar mainly through their association with the homes they built.
