Safety urged as winter nears

Winter Hazard Awareness Week is Nov. 9-13.  The emergency manager in Lake City and Wabasha County emergency management would like to remind people of these important tips:
• Many people drown each year when they fall through the ice.
• Approximately 65 percent of all ice drownings are vehicle related.
• Several children die almost every year in ice-related accidents.
• Last winter, 14 people died in Minnesota in snowmobile accidents.
• Eight of the snowmobile deaths were alcohol or drug related.
