School district plans smaller levy increase

Lake City Public Schools wants property taxpayers in the district to know the school portion of their property taxes won’t be as high as it appears on proposed tax statements headed their way in November.

In September, the School Board voted to levy the maximum amount allowed by state law. Because of levy authority granted by the state legislature to school districts, the vote would result in a 23 percent levy increase if it were to be affirmed later this year.
