Ter Borch was just 17 when he left for the war

Editor’s note: A series of articles about Lake City residents’ memories of their lives on the home front during World War II continues below. The articles were created by the Friends of the Lake City Library in conjunction with this year’s Lake City Reads selection, “The All-Girl Filling Station Last Reunion.” The book tells the story of the women who ran a filling station in Wisconsin while the men were away fighting in the war. The next Lake City Reads event is a book discussion Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at the Lake City Public Library. Refreshments will be served.
