After sabotaging border security bill, Trump created inhumane, unpopular mess
In February 2024, the U.S Senate, in a fragile bipartisan attempt, considered proposed legislation called Border Act of 2024. This act was an immigration and border security bill with conditions that presented a ray of hope for immigration reform. By May of 2024, enough Republican senators changed their initial support for the bill that it failed to clear the Senate. Elements of the bill included increased border funding, emergency authority to closed the border during high influx, a streamlined and stricter asylum process with fewer appeals and more detention beds.
