Discouraged soldier asks: Where are our leaders?
In 1972, about this time in January, I was discharged from the U.S. Army in Oakland, Calif. In the process of being evaluated for discharge - along with many other service men - I was advised that it would be worth considering whether to wear my uniform home to Minnesota because of the protests going on against the war – that it might not be safe for me.
Now it is 2026, and once again we have violent protests here in Minnesota and, unfortunately, people being arrested and at least one killed.
