What ever happened to white sidewall tires?

After World War II had ended it took a while for automobiles to once again start rolling off U.S. assembly lines.

The Old Curmudgeon was twelve years old and was playing in the yard on the family farm in Dodge County when a neighbor pulled in driving a brand new Studebaker. (Remember them?)  

The neighbor was bringing fresh strawberries from her garden and saw it as an opportunity to show off the new purchase.
