I hope you have never heard those words from a police officer. I have not, but there is tomorrow. Were you aware that you can use those words to detain others? Any person may arrest another for a public offense committed or attempted in their presence. Every state has regulations covering what is known as a “citizen’s arrest.” Most have no requirement that you be a citizen and do not require any minimum age. There is a lot of misunderstanding about what a citizen’s arrest really is.
