White canes and laws help those with low vision be independent
You may have observed some Lake City residents using a white stability cane with a red bottom as they are out and about in our city.
The white stability cane is a tool for identification to others that the user has a vision impairment and needs special precautions such as drivers stopping for the pedestrian using a white cane, giving the pedestrian the right of way.
While the white stability cane is a symbol for safety, it is also a symbol of independence for people with low or impaired vision.
